5 Shocking Moments From Trump's '60 Minutes' Interview

Donald Trump 60 Minutes Interview

Remember when Republicans idolized Ronald Reagan?
The president who said the United States should be like a “shining city on a hill,” always taking the moral high ground and bringing other countries up to our values?
Well, Donald Trump took a huge crap on that Sunday during a lengthy discussion on 60 Minutes with interviewer Leslie Stahl*.
*(Remember, the one who said Trump admitted to her he only made up the “fake news” thing so people would believe his lies? Yeah, he’s still willing to talk to her. Probably because he knows she was telling the truth about that.)

Well, during this talk Trump over and over abandoned any pretense of moral judgment in any decision. Everything was to make money or win elections. Everything.
We cut it down to the 5 most ridiculous moments (below):
“I’m Not A Baby”
Ooh, we’ll take Things Babies Say for $300!
When asked about the idea of a secret resistance to his most dangerous impulses, the President of the United States said:

“I don’t trust everybody in the White House, I‘ll be honest with you. I’m usually guarded. And I think I’m guarded anyway. But I’m not saying I trust everybody in the White House. I’m not a baby.”

OK, let’s skip over the fact we have a paranoid POTUS (and probably for good reason).
Where did that BABY comment come from?? That’s definitely the result of being called a baby all the time, right?
Putin On The Ritz
When asked if he actually thought his buddy Vladimir Putin was involved in poisonings on British soil and other assassinations, Trump admitted:

“Probably he is, yeah. Probably.”

But Trump said he didn’t care. For

“But I rely on them, it’s not in our country.”

Wow. Who cares if it’s murder, who cares if the U.K. is our ally? Trump relies on Russia.
Speaking of which, he actually admitted Russia interfered with the 2016 election, as EVERY intelligence agency around the world has reported:

“They– they meddled. But I think China meddled too.”

WHUT?? Even Stahl was shocked, calling Trump’s B.S. claim “amazing.” When she asked WHY he would say that, what basis for such an accusation, he said:

“Because I think China meddled also. And I think, frankly, China is a bigger problem.”

He’s just using classic Russian whataboutism.
He’s giving his followers the ammo to respond to any proof of Russian collusion with “yeah but what about China helping Democrats?”
Even though it’s pure nonsense.
On His Love Affair With Kim Jong Un
Trump recently said he and the North Korean leader “fell in love.”
Until Trump, presidents have kept the dictator at arms length, so to speak, due to the atrocities he and his father committed against their people.
But Trump is sticking with his line about not caring about what happens to humans outside of the U.S. When faced with a list of Jong Un’s human rights violations, he responded:

“Sure. I know all these things. I mean, I’m not a baby. I know these things…
Look, let it be whatever it is. I get along with him really well. I have a good energy with him. I have a good chemistry with him. Look at the horrible threats that were made. No more threats. No more threats.”

OMG, he did the baby line again!!! New catchphrase. Def.
Reminder: the threats escalated after Trump made fun of the man on Twitter for no reason and then threatened him with “fire and fury.”
You don’t get credit for stepping back problems YOU caused.
Oh, BTW, they didn’t stop their nuclear missile program. So he did not “get the job done.”
Jobs > Planet
Trump has only enacted policies that hurt the environment, gutting the EPA, withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, etc.
Meanwhile scientific consensus is we only have a few years left to reverse man-made climate change.
So when asked point blank if he thinks climate change is a hoax, Trump babbled:

“I think something’s happening. Something’s changing, and it’ll change back again. I don’t think it’s a hoax, I think there’s probably a difference. But I don’t know that it’s man-made. I will say this. I don’t want to give trillions and trillions of dollars. I don’t want to lose millions and millions of jobs. I don’t want to be put at a disadvantage.”

Then he pulled a classic Trump move.
After saying he didn’t think it was a hoax, planting that sound byte, he then TOTALLY implied it was a hoax!

“You’d have to show me the scientists because they have a very big political agenda.”

Wanting the planet we live on to continue being habitable is not a political agenda.
“It Doesn’t Matter”
Stahl pressed the POTUS on his decision to mock Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford, he was completely unapologetic, attesting:

“If I had not made that speech, we wouldn’t have won.”

WHUT?? Senators decided that, it wasn’t a vote.
And getting the right person on the Supreme Court shouldn’t be about one party winning or losing. But it’s all about politics for Trump:

“I will tell you this. The way now Justice Kavanaugh was treated has become a big factor in the midterms. Have you seen what’s gone on with the polls?”

He then said he thought he treated Dr. Ford with respect, leading to Stahl pointing out he ALSO basically told his followers she was lying about everything.
He responded:

“I’m not going to get into it, because we won. It doesn’t matter. We won.”

It doesn’t matter. We won.
If you’re wondering where the rabid tribalism is coming from these past couple months, the complete discarding of morality, the abandoning of American exceptionalism, look no further.
“It doesn’t matter.”
“I don’t want to be put at a disadvantage.”
“It’s not in our country.”
Trump has turned America from “guiding freedom-loving people everywhere” to “Screw ’em. I gots mine.”
