Donald Trump and Kamala Harris finally faced off in their first presidential debate against each other on Tuesday night — and it was a wild one!
The debate took place in Philadelphia. Naturally, it covered all kinds of topics from abortion to climate change to health insurance, and SO much more — including some topics we NEVER saw coming. Let’s get into all the biggest moments of the night!

First, things started strong when the candidates — who had never met each other before — went in for a handshake to kick things off. The Democrat introduced herself first, saying, “Kamala Harris. Let’s have a good debate.” Trump followed along, remarking, “Nice to see you. Have fun.”

A classy start!
But just as expected, things quickly went off the rails! Perhaps the most jaw-dropping segment was Trump’s rant about immigrants eating pets! Yup, he really said that!! As he started to grow more upset throughout the night, the convicted felon spread a rumor that immigrants in Springfield, Ohio are supposedly eating people’s pets. He declared:
“In Springfield they’re eating the dogs, the people that came in. They’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there.”
Moderator David Muir fact-checked him on the spot, insisting the city manager “told us there had been no credible reports of specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community.” But Donny didn’t stop!! He continued:
“I’ve seen people on television. People on television say my dog was taken and used for food.”
Take this as a wake-up call to not believe everything you see on TV! If you didn’t already know that…
Elsewhere, the current VP hit back hard about her stance on guns — this after Donald alleged that she was going to “confiscate everyone’s guns” once in office. She denied this, urging:
“Tim Walz and I are both gun owners. We aren’t taking anybody’s guns away — so stop with the continuous lying about this stuff!”
That wasn’t the only time Kamala tried to set the record straight, either. She also unexpectedly invited everyone to attend one of her opponent’s rallies. She explained:
“And I’m gonna actually do something really unusual and I’m gonna invite you to attend one of Donald Trump’s rallies, cause it’s a really interesting thing to watch. You will see during the course of his rallies he talks about fictional characters like Hannibal Lecter. He will talk about windmills causing cancer. And what you will also notice is that people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom. And I will tell you the one thing you will not hear him talk about is you. You will not hear him talk about your needs, your dreams, and your desires.”
Just look at his face when she talked about his crowd size. He was pissed!
She also made him just as mad later on when she pointed out that he was FIRED previously, remarking:
“Donald Trump was fired by 81 million people, so let’s be clear about that. And clearly, he is having a very difficult time processing that!”
Ha!! Mic drop!
The ex-president tried to talk his way out of that jab by insisting tons of world leaders “respected” and “feared” him. But his competition claimed international politicians have called him a “disgrace.” See the full clap back (below):
Trump was also given the opportunity to address comments he made about Harris’ race back in July when he claimed she’d only just adopted a Black identity. When asked if he thought that was an appropriate topic of discussion, he said:
“I don’t. And I don’t care what she is.”
But he then doubled down on his previous stance, adding:
“All I can say is I read where she was not Black — that she put out — and I’ll say that. And then I read that she was Black, and that’s okay.”
Kamala’s response? She said:
“Honestly, I think it’s a tragedy that we have someone who wants to be president who has consistently, over the course of his career, attempted to use race to divide the American people. You know, I do believe that the vast majority of us know that we have so much more in common than what separates us, and we don’t want this kind of approach that is constantly trying to divide us — and especially by race.”
She also brought the receipts, pointing out that the businessman was “investigated because he refused to rent property to Black families.” She also noted that he “took out a full-page ad in the New York Times calling for the execution of five young Black and Latino boys who were innocent, the Central Park Five,” and that he spread lies “about the first Black president.”
