On Tuesday, Donald Trump‘s spokesperson Hope Hicks formally addressed the controversy surrounding a $1 million post-inauguration hunting and fishing trip billed as “Opening Day”.

The expensive charity package, supposedly organized by Eric and Donald Trump Jr., received backlash after the Center For Public Integrity found the donations were actually going to a newly formed organization run by the Trumps themselves.
This meant they were essentially offering access to the President-elect and his inner circle for cold hard cash.
But according to Hicks, the brothers weren’t planning on going through with the party even before the backlash. She explained:
“The Opening Day event and details that have been reported are merely initial concepts that have not been approved or pursued by the Trump family. Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump are avid outdoorsmen and supporters of conservation efforts, which align with the goals of this event, however they are not involved in any capacity…
Additionally, the president-elect is not aware of the event or the details pertaining to it.”
Hmm… did they really not know about it? Or are they just covering their asses after getting caught?
