We all know by now Donald Trump lacks the empathy and intelligence to be president. But sometimes he outdoes himself.
In the wake of Hurricane Florence, he’s just gone full Donnie.
Trump visited victims in New Bern, North Carolina on Wednesday and apparently reverted back into an Atlantic City casino owner, telling people who had just lost their homes to “Have a good time.”

Most egregiously, he seemed to get completely preoccupied with something only a being of pure greed could — the value of a boat.
See, this particular boat had been thrown violently by the storm into a man’s house, destroying his backyard deck.
The correct response is some version of “I’m so sorry for your loss.” Trump was quoted as saying:
“Is this your boat?”
When the man told him it wasn’t, Trump offered:
“At least you got a nice boat out of the deal.”
The deal. The hurricane that wreaked havoc on the man’s neighborhood. Trump has such a limited vocabulary he called it “the deal.”

But he didn’t stop.
Pool reporters say he kept talking about the boat, which he called “incredible” and told others:
“They don’t know whose boat that is. What’s the law? Maybe it becomes theirs.”
OMG. He was serious. Too-soon gallows humor is one thing, but he wasn’t even making a joke! He seriously was thinking about whether this boat could legally be stolen from the owner.

But THIS one you are not going to believe. In his address to the country on the matter, one filmed and edited by his own people, in which he could have done another take or been cut around, he said of Hurricane Florence:
“This is a tough hurricane, one of the wettest we’ve ever seen, from the standpoint of water.”
We are not joking. This is what he actually said. It’s only about 7 seconds in:

Just… wow.
Again, that’s the video they made. It’s not live. That’s the best take they got.
Presumably the only one where he doesn’t openly wonder about salvage rights on damaged property.
