Donald Trump isn’t being very stupid, he can tell you that!
This week, the President revealed he did not have any “tapes” of his conversations with James Comey after weeks of teasing bombshell recordings like he was promoting the season finale of his presidency.
Now, the president wants us to know the real reason he use tapes to threaten the former FBI director — who claims he was fired after refusing to drop the Michael Flynn investigation. It was to keep Comey from changing his story!

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said it “wasn’t very stupid” to paint himself as the moral authority by threatening the FBI head with recordings he didn’t actually make.
Because according to the Commander in Chief, his threat could have been the only reason Comey was honest under oath. He mused:
“I think his story may have changed.”
After Fox reporter Ainsley Earnhardt suggested that keeping the tapes was “a smart way to make sure he stayed honest in those hearings,” (Forget softball questions, she straight up handed him a batting tee!) the President replied:
“Well, uh, it wasn’t very stupid, I can tell you that. He did admit that what I said was right, and if you look further back, before he heard about that, I think maybe he wasn’t admitting that. So I think maybe you’ll need to do a little investigative reporting to determine that, but I don’t think it will be that hard.”
What? No. Comey admitted Trump wasn’t under special investigation — which he wasn’t, AT THE TIME — but Trump has no reason to insinuate the former director is the untrustworthy one in this equation.

Remember, we’re talking about the guy who launched a probe into Hillary Clinton‘s emails weeks before the election. Comey BLEEDS honesty!
At the end of the day, Trump says he “didn’t tape” Comey after all — but don’t think other presidents are as merciful!
Trump didn’t forget to use the topic of recordings to shade the Barack Obama administration, claiming he’s been “reading about” countless surveillance being done by his predecessor. He explained:
“You never know what’s happening when you see that the Obama administration and perhaps longer than that was doing all this unmasking and surveillance and you read all about it and I’ve been reading about it for the last couple of months about the seriousness of the horribleness of the situation of surveillance all over the place.”
Just horrible, horrible stuff. Thank goodness we have such a trustworthy president in office right now.
