Looks like Donald Trump may be getting close to choosing a running mate… and it’s somebody the Republican Party knows VERY well!
For a few weeks now, Vice President rumors have been swirling around Newt Gingrich — yes, the Former Speaker of the House who worked with Bill Clinton to pass legislation in the 1990s, and then ran his own ill-fated race for President four years ago.
But on Tuesday, everything changed, because FOX News (where Gingrich had been employed as a contributor for years) officially suspended him due to all the campaign chatter.

To put it simply, it’s a huge conflict of interest for cable news networks like FOX to employ people who may be part of national campaigns, so the organization felt the reports surrounding Gingrich as possible VP were so loud that it was time to cut ties.
The news network said in a statement:
“Fox News Channel has mutually agreed to suspend its contributor agreement with Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich effective immediately. Due to the intense media speculation about Gingrich’s potential selection as Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate, we felt it best to halt his contributor role on the network to avoid all conflicts of interest that may arise.”
Is there really a conflict if he’s NOT being chosen?
While the network itself decided to suspend their working relationship with Gingrich due merely to “the intense media speculation,” others in the know contend it’s more than just speculation.
According to reports, Gingrich has the inside shot at being The Donald’s Vice President and is currently going through the vetting process.

Heck, Newt himself even indicated on TV today that he knows when the VP announcement is coming (below):

For him to know that, he’s either (a) the VP pick himself, or (b) knows the process SO well that he knows who the pick is.
Regardless, social media chatter is aflame with Newt discussion, and most of it is… not so good for Trump.
After all, Gingrich — just like Trump — is an out of touch, old, kinda racist white guy who has a history of cheating on his wives and saying offensive things.

And Gingrich, like Trump, does absolutely nothing for the Republican Party in a time where it desperately needs to get younger and far, far more diverse.
Then again, maybe that’s why these two are linking up!
