After spending the past two years on the road, Ed Sheeran is going to enjoy a much needed holiday!
The Grammy winner announced he would be taking a rather lengthy break from music on the final stop of his Divide tour earlier this week, which saw him giving more than 250 performances across the globe.
Speaking to the crowd in Ipswich, England, the Thinking of You crooner said:
“As you may or not know, I’ve been on the Divide tour for over two years now and this is the last day of the whole thing. There is something very bittersweet about it. I love that you guys are here and we are ending it in Ipswich. This is my last gig for probably 18 months.”
Specific!
Sure, 18 months sounds like a lot of time off, but Eddie’s earned some extended R&R after flying all over the world to play for his fans in what he claimed was “the biggest tour ever.”

He added:
“We’ve played all around the world. Glastonbury, Wembley Stadium. All these amazing venues, America, New Zealand, Australia, Asia, South America—it’s been a wild one… I was told before I came on that, now, at the end of this tour, I’ve played to nine million people around the world. It is the biggest tour ever.”
Well… one of the biggest, at least! Just to compare, Bob Dylan’s Never Ending Tour has basically been running for 30 years now.
But it’s definitely time for Sheeran to take a step back from the stage, as he’s apparently developed an “odd” relationship with touring over the course of his Divide shows. He joked:
“It kind of feels like, in a weird way, that you’re breaking up with a girlfriend that you’ve been with for years. It sounds odd but it has been a long tour.”
Before his final number, the 28-year-old crooner thanked everyone who helped make his award-winning album a success, noting:
“Thank you to everyone who has given me a chance. This is my last song. I wrote this when I was 15 years old. See you in a few years time. Thank you.”
No. Thank you, Ed!
The musician’s extended vacay plans will likely include spending lots of time with wife Cherry Seaburn, whom the star confirmed he got married to earlier this summer while promoting his album No. 6 Collaborations Project.
In an interview with iHeartRadio‘s Charlamagne Tha God, he said of his longtime love:
“I spend a lot of time on the road. And I have to go on the road and have this belief that, you know, this is meant to be… I constantly wake up every day with Cherry and I’m just like, ‘Why the f**k are you with me? You could literally be with whoever you wanted, and you’ve chosen me. And I’m saying all of the things that I think are wrong with me, but you still want to be with me.’ And I just find that amazing.”
We’re sure there are lots of amazing moments in store for the couple over the next 18 months!
