Mexican Telenovela Star Edith Gonzalez Dead At 54

Edith Gonzalez Dead At 54

Sad news to report on an icon in Mexican television and telenovelas; beloved actress Edith Gonzalez has died.
The longtime actress, who was 54 years old, passed away on Thursday morning at Ángeles Interlomas Hospital in the nation’s capital city of Mexico City, according to media reports coming out of the country and first confirmed by journalist Mara Patricia Castañeda.

Gonzalez had been diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer back in 2016, and at the time, she underwent major surgery to have her ovaries, uterus, and lymph nodes removed in the battle with the disease. She remained optimistic immediately afterwards as she recovered from the surgery — publicly fighting the disease while openly telling all of her fans that she was determined to live her life as normal and beat cancer.
And even though her cancer entered remission in 2017 after the surgeries, it returned some time this year, and eventually led to her passing. The journalist Castañeda initially revealed the sad news in an interview with Televisa HOY, sharing that one of Gonzalez’s closest longtime friends — Leticia Calderon — was the one who passed the news along in order to share it publicly.
Gonzalez’s death is a big deal south of the border, as the Mexican TV star was beloved by her loyal viewers across the country for her decades of on-camera work, which spanned TelevisaTelemundo, and TV Azteca. Perhaps best known for her longtime role in the telenovela Salomé, Gonzalez remained on camera and determined to work right up until her death — she had most recently been a judge on the Mexican reality TV show This Is My Style, as well as making a high-profile appearance as character Eva Soler in Eva La Trailera back in 2016.

She is survived by her husband, Lorenzo Lazo, and the couple’s 14-year-old daughter Constanza. All day on Thursday across social media in Mexico, both fans and colleagues, including fellow actors, paid their respects to the late Gonzalez and her family in the wake of such a tragedy.
We can’t even begin to imagine what her husband and daughter have going through this week — and for the last several years as the whole family has stood behind Edith in her public battle with cancer.
Our thoughts and respects are with all of Gonzalez’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly sad, difficult time.
R.I.P…
