Ellie Goulding is putting it all on the table.
The Lights songstress has had enough of a cheating rumor that’s followed her for nearly 10 years, through her late 20s and into her 30s. If you aren’t aware, back in 2013, Ellie was spotted with One Direction alum Niall Horan in some full-on PDA glory at a music festival in England — just one week before cozying up with Ed Sheeran, holding hands, at the MTV VMAs. At the time, fans believed the Love Me Like You Do singer to be exclusive with Sheeran, causing some major backlash and accusations that she cheated with Niall.

Ellie then took to Twitter to deny she was in a relationship with Ed, before he told a Seattle radio station that there WAS indeed something between them… He then released Don’t, which further fueled cheating rumors. Fast forward ten years, one TikTok user brought up the situation AGAIN, commenting on the Burn singer’s post:
“can’t believe u cheated on ed with niall but slay fr”
She quickly hit back:
“False!!!! But also slay.”
Now, she’s diving deeper. While speaking with Daily Mail Sunday, the 36-year-old revealed just how much the situation affected her:
“It’s fascinating how many people are interested in that. It happened nine years ago. You know, completely honestly, it caused me a huge amount of… stress is not the word. It caused me a lot of trauma, actually.”
She elaborated:
“I envy the fact that my friends just spent their 20s having flings and one-night stands and what every 20-something goes through in private. But every single thing I did was written about. I was made to feel like a terrible person and I really struggled with that because I know I’m not.”
That’s such a sad truth for celebrities! In with the success, and unfortunately out with the hopes of a normal life.

The outlet then alleged that the toxic flack caused the Close to Me singer to take a five-year hiatus after releasing 2015’s album, Delirium. She added that to some capacity, the accusations damaged her career:
“I can laugh about it now but it changed things for me. I became kind of reclusive. I didn’t want to perform. That’s why I wrote that [TikTok] comment, because every day I get comments about this stupid teenage situation. It was nothing and it was private — and it caused me such a huge amount of grief and I resent it.”
As for her response to the recent TikTok comment, she revealed:
“I think I was really drunk when I wrote that, yeah.”
You know what they say: drunk words are sober thoughts. Ellie was just defending her truth! Through it all, though, she and Ed have managed to remain friends, with her adding:
“It is in the past and we’re friends. We’re adults.”
