At last, it looks like Etta James‘s finally feeling the heat for her “whip Beyonce’s ass” rant caught on tape.
The old gal told the NY Daily News that she was only trying to get a laugh for slamming B for singing ‘her’ song, At Last, at the big ball! She didn’t mean it and didn’t come from a vicious place.
She was JUST JOKING!
Uh huh!
“I didn’t really mean anything,” Etta now says. “Even as a little child, I’ve always had that comedian kind of attitude. … That’s probably what went into it.”
She went on to say that she kept up with the Beyonce bashing only because the crowd was laughing so hard, “Nobody was getting mad at me in Seattle. They were all laughing, and it was funny.”
The old school crooner does admit to being peeved that she wasn’t invited to perform her signature song for the Obamas first dance at the inauguration. She didn’t like “feeling left out of something that was basically mine, that I had done every time you look around.”
And, though Etta liked Beyonce’s performance on inauguration night, when hen asked if she could have done better than Knowles, the oldie answered, “I think so. That’s a shame to say that.”
We hope in her old age Beyonce won’t be all bitter Betty when the new hot thing does a remake of her classics!
