EXCLUSIVE Nutrition Tips For Parents: The Deal With Yogurt?

Margaux's Nutrition Nibble
To yogurt, or not to yogurt?
That is the question on perezcious parent has for Perezitos‘s nutrition expert Margaux J. Rathbun!
Jim from New Jersey asks:

“I like to give my two boys yogurt in the morning because it’s a quick and easy breakfast. There are so many brands and varieties at my grocery store. What kind of yogurt should I be feeding my kids? Is one kind better and another?”

Here’s Margaux’s answer:

“Yogurt is such an easy and nutritious breakfast to feed your kids. It includes probiotics (AKA friendly bacteria) for keeping your child’s immune system strong and digestive health optimal.
If you are concerned about your child being lactose intolerant, you should note that many people who have issues with dairy can stomach yogurt just fine. People who are lactose intolerant have a hard time digesting milk products because they lack the enzyme “lactase” that breaks down the main carbohydrate in milk. Yogurt is a different because the starter cultures actually produce lactase during fermentation, making it easier to digest.
When it comes to selecting a yogurt, be sure you are reading the labels. Don’t buy any yogurt with added sugar (some of the conventional yogurt cups that have fruit toppings include artificial colorings and even high-fructose corn syrup). Fage makes a great Greek yogurt with all natural toppings like honey, cherries, and pomegranates. So Delicious has a line of coconut yogurt that boasts all the health benefits of regular yogurt. You can also get plain yogurt and top it at home with chia seeds, granola, and berries.
Your kids will love it! “

Yummy!
That’s something the whole fam can eat up!
