Do you find yourself falling asleep in math class? Is it hard to muster up the energy to get out of bed in the morning?
(If you’re human the answer is “Yes!”)
You’re in luck! Perezito‘s nutrition expert Margaux is here to save the long and tired day.
She says you need to quit those icky energy drinks and wake yourself up with healthy food!
The expert says:
Believe it or not, there are foods that can help give us a natural lift of energy!
Apples are a portable and delicious food that keeps us energized. Studies have shown that the phytonutrients in apples can help to regulate blood sugar and prevent spikes sugar levels, causing us to crash and burn. Apples also promote good heart health and good digestion.
Oats are a fantastic source of vitamin B complex which is good for your nervous system and for strengthening your bones. They also contain “good fat” which will help give you energy to make it through the day. Oats are also a great source of fiber which will aid in having a healthy digestive system. The more we digest our foods, the better we will feel!
Love nuts? Almonds are another energy-boosting food. These tasty nuts are great for giving us energy due to the fact that they are loaded with potassium and iron. They are also a good source of protein, magnesium, manganese, copper, phosphorus, and vitamin B2. To obtain all their health benefits, be sure to snack on raw almonds rather than the candy-coated or salted kind!
Be sure you are drinking water during the day. One of the early signs of dehydration is fatigue, so keep a water bottle on you at all times to stay hydrated.
If you love to make smoothies in the morning, try out this smoothie recipe:
Energy-Boosting Banana Blackberry Smoothie
§ 2 bananas
§ 1 organic apple (I like using Gala apples with this recipe)
§ 1 C fresh organic blackberries (bonus points if you picked them yourself)
§ 1 C organic apple juice
§ 2 Tbsp. chia seeds (I like using the white seeds from The Chia Co)
Wash the apples and berries thoroughly. Add all ingredients to a blender and mix until well blended. Serve in a tall glass and enjoy!
