American actor Ezra Miller is the subject of some seriously less-than-ideal attention after a video surfaced appearing to show him choking a woman and bringing her to the ground.
The clip, which first appeared on Reddit earlier this past weekend before going viral across social media, leaves a LOT of questions about context — like, was it for real, or a prank?! But regardless of intent, it’s quickly become a source of serious controversy and plenty of social media reactions.

First things first is the video itself, which reportedly takes place in Iceland. In it, a man, who appears to be Miller, eyes a smiling young woman approaching him, and says something to the effect “Oh, you wanna fight, that’s what you wanna do?” The man then proceeds to grab the woman by the neck, twist her around, and drop her to the ground — as the cameraman shooting the clip reacts negatively and cuts off the shot.
CONTENT WARNING here for those sensitive to violence, and specifically violence against women. Whether a prank or for real, the act itself is violent enough to be remarkably unsettling, and we recommend those affected don’t watch the clip.
But for those who feel comfortable, you can see the actual interaction on camera (below):

Wow. We just… wow.
Again, there are SO MANY questions here, we don’t even know what’s going on or how to process it fully, but just seeing the actual act is pretty unsettling and unfortunate. WTF?!

As you’d expect, the clip has spread like wildfire across social media, with no shortage of reaction pouring in about the famous We Need To Talk About Kevin star and his alleged actions. One social media user, who referenced Miller’s famous non-binary self-identification, reacted strongly:
“ezra miller is a great example of why yall should stop saying someone ended toxic masculinity every time they wear unblended eyeshadow bc they’ve proven they can reject traditionally masculine aesthetics and still not hesitate to choke a woman to the ground”
Wow! Point made. Another reaction poured in highly negative of the Perks of Being a Wallflower star, calling him out for his “vanity” as a celeb in reacting negatively to a fan:
“Damm.. insanely inhuman to disrespect and a harm a fan like that. Don’t know the whole backstory but I don’t think I have to. People get so clouded up in their heads with vanity they think they can do whatever they want to whoever they want. F**k Ezra Miller”
Still, more backlash poured in, with some Twitter users regrettably making light of the whole ordeal:

Yikes.
Miller hasn’t publicly commented on the video yet, and it’s tough to know for sure what was going on. The woman was obviously smiling in the seconds before the incident, so could it have been a prank? Something the two of them choreographed? With a short video clip and such little context around it, was it something else entirely??

Ultimately, it matters to know exactly what was going on, but it also kind of doesn’t… like, prank or not, that video clip on its own is still SUPER f**ked up, ya know? Violence against women is a very sensitive subject, and so any attempted jokes about it are kind of risky and… maybe not so advisable. Just saying! And what if this clip isn’t a joke? And it’s actually for real???
What do U think about all this, Perezcious readers? What’s your take on the unfortunately viral video?? Sound OFF about everything here down in the comments (below).
