Another state bites the dust and so does Four Loko’s profit projections.
Governor David Paterson announced Sunday that Phusion Projects, the company that produces Four Loko, has agreed to stop shipments of the 12% alcohol by volume energy drink to New York state.
New York distributors have until Dec. 10 to finish out their inventory of the beverage that has been banned in Washington, Michigan, Utah, and Oklahoma after repeat incidents involving local college kids being hospitalized after drinking the product.
In regards to his decision, the Governor said:
“New Yorkers deserve to know that the beverages they buy are safe for consumption.├óΓé¼┬¥
├óΓé¼┼ôThis drink is too easy for teens to get and too dangerous for them to consume,” said state Senator Joel Klein in a statement after announcing that a minor working undercover for the police was illegally sold Four Loko at 11 of 28 stores in the Bronx on November 9.
Once again, we definitely agree that underage drinking is a problem, but it raises the question: How is the Chicago-based Phusion at fault for store owners selling an alcoholic beverage to minors?
What do U think? Should Obama just step up and ban the drink for good or are these states taking extreme precautions?
