It seems that not even the prestigious Cannes film festival is immune to drama!
Director Francis Ford Coppola has been shut out of the festival since 1979’s Apocalypse Now and when he was ready to make his comeback with his latest, Tetro, Cannes shot him down with a non-competitive spot.
So, what did Coppola do?
He showed up to a question-and-answer session inappropriately underdressed in his singature Hawaiian shirt and slacks. And all Caoppola had to say of it was, “I didn’t picture myself in a tuxedo presenting an indie picture.”
An insider said, “Francis was probably insulted. Tetro would have been his big high-profile return. His last film, ‘Youth Without Youth,’ got him a lot of attention since it was his first film in 10 years. But if he had won the Palme exactly 30 years after winning for ‘Apocalypse Now’ his career would have been back on track.”
“Probably” insulted?
If it’s not obvious then Cannes needs to check its vision!
And we mean that in more ways than one!
