A 'Friends' Reunion Special Is Reportedly In The Works At HBO Max!

We couldn’t BE any more excited by this news!!

The core cast of Friends: Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer, are reportedly in talks of creating a special for HBO Max.

Sources have shared with The Hollywood Reporter that the six TV/IRL bestiez are currently chatting with the network, along with series creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman. Things are still in the early stages though.

If and when an agreement is reached between the cast and creatives, insiders say the next challenge will be figuring out scheduling and logistics to make it work. Both HBO Max and WBTV declined to comment on the rumors to the publication.

The timing of all of this seems TOO perfect!! We know the six have hung out recently (thanks Jen for breaking Instagram), and 2019 marked 25 years since the show first premiered, which many of them commemorated on social media. Let’s hope things fall into place!

Miz Aniston did shut down rumors of a reboot while chatting with (and kissing) Ellen DeGeneres last month, but did hint at something different to tease us all with:

“We would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is. So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.”

As noted by THR, the possibility of a new reunion would definitely give a massive boost to HBO, much like the anticipated Star Wars scripted drama The Mandalorian which premiered on Disney+ this Tuesday.

While speaking with Rolling Stone in March, series co-creator and exec producer Kauffman (who is now apparently on board with this reunion special), denounced rumors of a reboot series. She explained:

“There are several reasons. One, the show is about a time in your life when your friends are your family. It’s not that time anymore. All we’d be doing is putting those six actors back together, but the heart of the show would be gone. Two, I don’t know what good it does us. The show is doing just fine, people love it. (A reunion) could only disappoint.”

Are U excited about the possibility of a reunion special, Perezcious readers? Or would you prefer a straight reboot?

Fans are SO particular about these things, we’re sure you have a thought. Sound OFF (below) in the comments with your take!!
