In an interview with Oprah Winfrey following the birth of her first child, Gabrielle opened up about being a stepmother first:
“I saw motherhood and parenthood with very realistic eyes. It looked hard. I wanted a life of flitting around the country and lack of responsibility and all that. Parenthood is about sacrifice, being consistent, and being present. Then he got full custody. I signed up for the boys quicker than I signed up for him.”
The point guard also opened up about how Michelle and Barack Obama‘s IVF story, as written in the former First Lady’s memoir Becoming, inspired their journey to parenthood:
“What Michelle and Barack did was like another strong, powerful voice in the African-American community stepping up, educating, and having a responsibility in saying, ‘You’re not the only one.’ It was great for us and the reason we decided to talk about everything that we went through.”
We LOVE this family!!
