Sounds like shizz is about to hit the Game of Thrones fan. But we know Cersei’s a smart one.
As Season 3 of Game of Thrones premieres Sunday the 31st, political tensions run high throughout Westeros. Lena Headey‘s Cersei is getting backed into a tight spot: between her cold father, Tywin (Charles Dance) and her son, King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson).
Lena revealed some of the obstacles in Cersei’s way. For one thing, with her brother, Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) gone, this questionably powerful lady is going to need to seek help elsewhere:
“She’s missing Jaime because he’s been gone for awhile. Interestingly her only ally is Tyrion (Peter Dinklage). It’s sort of an interesting dynamic between those two. They share a common ground because they’re both terrified of their father. It’s that interesting thing where children, if they’re frightened by their parents, there’s a competition between them for their father’s trust and belief. There’s an interesting teenage behavior between them, and she’s terrified of her father finding out who she really is.”
Meanwhile, Joffrey’s drastic and violent inclinations are going to bring Cersei’s lack of control to the forefront:
├óΓé¼┼ôJoffrey is literally out of her control. It├óΓé¼Γäós so painful for her that it├óΓé¼Γäós such a big f├óΓé¼ΓÇ£k up, that the kid she loves so much is so out of hand and she has little-to-no control over him… She keeps trying to be the soft, gentle mother with him, and he needs a good slap.├óΓé¼┬¥
Lena explains that Cersei’s children’s actions affect her more than she likes to lead on:
├óΓé¼┼ôHer children are her sanity… So the more they crumble, the more she does, and that├óΓé¼Γäós a real mirror for her. And that├óΓé¼Γäós why the Joffrey thing is so terrifying and upsetting to her.├óΓé¼┬¥
And it’s only going to get worse between she and Joffrey as his new bride, Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) arrives, shifting Joffrey’s attention. “The threat of Margaery, who’s younger and beautiful, is just killing her,” says Lena.
“That’s the thing about Cersei. She’s always covering her real feelings. Her honest state is fear, but it’s covered up by greed and pride.”
How will she get herself out of this mess? We├óΓé¼Γäóll just have to wait and see…
P.S. Check out the promo and featurette! It’ll hold you over till Sunday. At least that’s the hope!
