Oh, Tom Ford. You never cease to amaze us.
The designer recently went off in Interview magazine about how gay men are far better designers than those who are straight.
Says Tom:
“I think I detach the physical from the spiritual. It├óΓé¼Γäós my business to make a woman or a man beautiful, and I├óΓé¼Γäóm working with a model in a fitting, and I├óΓé¼Γäóve objectified them to the point that they become an object. They├óΓé¼Γäóre something that I├óΓé¼Γäóm modeling or shaping or sculpting, but I├óΓé¼Γäóm very aware that even though I make them physically beautiful, their soul and personality and character is somewhat detached from that. It├óΓé¼Γäós great when you have a combination of the two ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ that├óΓé¼Γäós what makes a true beauty. Some people are physically beautiful but yet they├óΓé¼Γäóre completely uninteresting, and thus they├óΓé¼Γäóre not beautiful. I detach the two. … That├óΓé¼Γäós why I think gay men make better designers.”
Let us give you the Spark Notes version of his long winded response: Tom Ford thinks he’s better than everyone else.
