And just like that… 21 years of Kelly Monaco on General Hospital comes to an end.
The soap star has memorably played Sam McCall on our small screens for over two decades and 2,000 episodes. But it’s time to bid her farewell, because Kelly has officially filmed her final scenes!

On Sunday, the 48-year-old took to Instagram with a photo of herself next to co-stars Kate Mansi, Nancy Lee Grahn and Kristen Vaganos on set. End of an era… And it was NOT her idea! Expressing bewilderment over her exit, she wrote:
“Last scene with the Davis girls … still doesn’t make any sense to me”

Back in August, the Soap Opera Network announced Kelly would be exciting General Hospital after her lengthy role on the series. We still haven’t been offered a concrete reason why, but the star briefly addressed the matter in a since-deleted Instagram comment in September. A fan commented on a post uploaded by @SoapHub claiming Kelly wouldn’t take a pay cut, but she reportedly corrected them:
“No primary role … do your homework. When Billy Miller was fired, Sam’s storyline stopped. Stripping Sam of every characteristic she had. Something I worked for decades to build… Slowly dismantling her, into a character that I did not recognize, let alone the audience. Call it what you will… retaliation at it [sic] finest. I will give a proper statement. The truth will set you free.”
But like we said, the comment has since been deleted… Maybe there were other reasons? We still don’t know because that “proper statement” has not come.
Back on her post on Sunday, co-star Nancy Lee Grahn did take to the comments section to offer some comforting words:
“In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.’ — Albert Einstein. I love you. All will be well. There are some things a TV mother just knows.”
