Catfish Star Quits MTV In Tearful Video After 6 Years

Kamie Crawford is saying goodbye to Catfish.

After six years of being Nev Schulman‘s sidekick on the hit reality TV show, the 31-year-old revealed she’s moving on in a new series of Instagram posts. She joined the show back in 2018 after she guest hosted a few episodes following Max Joseph‘s departure, and ended up landing the full-time gig. Now, it would seem, it’s her time to enter a new era.

On Friday, Kamie posted a clip from her podcast Relations**t, emotionally discussing how she had “big shoes to fill” for being a replacement host:

“I quit my job. I decided to leave Catfish after 6 years. Coming into a show and being somebody’s quote, unquote ‘replacement’ — it was big shoes to fill. I wanted to make people proud and make people feel good about themselves, that’s the only thing that I’ve ever wanted to do ever in my life.”

She went on to say it was “not an easy decision” — but she’s “proud” of herself for “making the decisions that are best for me”. Tearing up, she explained:

“I am so lucky, but I had to make a decision. I hope you can respect it and that’s that.”

She’s having such a hard time not choking up! Aww…

On Thursday, she also posted a carousel of photos announcing she’d be leaving and explaining her decision. The lengthy statement read:

“After six years of living my absolute dream working on Catfish – one of the most iconic shows in television history, it is with a heavy heart and much consideration that I have decided to move on to my next adventure.”

She went on to say she’s grateful for the “worldwide support” and the experiences she had on the show:

“When I got an email in 2018 from an absolute stranger at Catfish’s production department asking if I wanted to guest co-host two episodes of one of my favourite shows of all time, I never would’ve imagined the life, love, memories and worldwide support that it would’ve awarded me. I am so grateful for every single moment spent travelling the country, meeting so many of you and helping people find love – whether that be from a partner or finding new ways to love themselves a little bit more.”

The tv host quoted her mom as a summary of how her life has gone since joining the show:

“My mom has always taught me that, ‘People may not always remember what you said, but they’ll always remember how you made them feel.'”

So sweet…

Kamie thanked “Catfish fans around the world” for their acceptance and warmth over the years, especially as Max’s replacement:

“The outpouring of love that I receive from a daily basis from Catfish fans around the world lets me know that I have done what I’ve always intended on doing, which is to leave every room a little bit brighter, warmer and safer than I entered. Thank you for wrapping your arms around me and accepting me with welcoming arms. Change is hard but your acceptance and love made it so much easier to fill some already pretty big shoes.”

Wrapping up her post, she thanked Nev and the whole crew for giving her the opportunity to be on Catfish:

“I am proud of the work we’ve done and the impact I’ve left and I am forever grateful to Nev, Critical Content and MTV for this once in a lifetime opportunity and shot at a dream I’ve been working towards since I was 19 years old.”

So heartfelt! We’ll be sad to see her go, but we wish her the best in her future. Reactions, Perezcious readers?
