George Clooney can’t believe the things that come out of some people’s mouths! Or more accurately, out of their phones!
The Monuments Men star thinks that if you’re famous, Twitter is nothing but a 140-character wrecking ball you’re swinging around your career. He says:
“If you├óΓé¼Γäóre famous, I don├óΓé¼Γäót├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥for the life of me├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥I don├óΓé¼Γäót understand why any famous person would ever be on Twitter. Why on God├óΓé¼Γäós green earth would you be on Twitter? Because first of all, the worst thing you can do is make yourself more available, right?”
George thinks the convenience and immediacy of Twitter can only lead to saying something stupid that you can’t take back! And he cites the case of The People vs. Ashton Kutcher as an example! He says:
“So one drunken night, you come home and you├óΓé¼Γäóve had two too many drinks and you├óΓé¼Γäóre watching TV and somebody pisses you off, and you go ‘Ehhhhh’ and fight back. And you go to sleep, and you wake up in the morning and your career is over. Or you├óΓé¼Γäóre an asshole. Or all the things you might think in the quiet of your drunken evening are suddenly blasted around the entire world before you wake up. I mean, when you see, like, Ashton Kutcher coming out going, you know, ‘Everybody leave Joe Paterno alone,’ or whatever he said, you just go, ‘Fifteen minutes longer and a thought process and probably you wouldn├óΓé¼Γäót have done that.'”
It’s true that people say some stupid things without thinking them through or getting all the facts. But isn’t the fact that we ALL do that kind of refreshing?
Twitter reminds us that we all have the capacity for hilarious insight, deep emotion, and pure stupidity.
And as long as we can forgive each other for it, we’ll all be #fine, right?
