It’s going on STRONG!!!
The Hollywood Reporter sat down with some of the creative minds behind Fox’s hit show, Glee, to ask them what it was like to be a part of the phenomena. Ryan Murphy, one of the show’s creators, went into some depth about the business end of the show. Not only did he reveal Eminem├óΓé¼Γäós asking price to use one of his songs ($200,000!) and that he is trying to get Stevie Nicks on the show (!!!!!), but he also rehashed his fury with the Kings of Leon for denying him the opportunity to put one of their songs in the show.
He explained (in a tone we can only imagine was flooded with contempt):
“F— you, Kings of Leon. They’re self-centered a–holes, and they missed the big picture. They missed that a 7-year-old kid can see someone close to their age singing a Kings of Leon song, which will maybe make them want to join a glee club or pick up a musical instrument. It’s like, OK, hate on arts education. You can make fun of Glee all you want, but at its heart, what we really do is turn kids on to music.”
Wow. One thing you can never say about Ryan is that he isn’t passionate and loyal to his project.
Upon hearing about Ryan’s furious statement, the band released their own to THR in response, saying:
├óΓé¼┼ôThis whole Glee thing is a shock to us. It├óΓé¼Γäós gotten out of hand. At the time of the request, we hadn├óΓé¼Γäót even seen the show. It came at the end of that record cycle, and we were over promoting [‘Use Somebody’]. This was never meant as a slap in the face to Glee or to music education or to fans of the show. We├óΓé¼Γäóre not sure where the anger is coming from.├óΓé¼┬¥
To be honest, neither do we. Why such a fuss over them, Ryan? Honestly, who cares anymore? Some of the greatest singers of our time have welcomed you into their catalogues with open arms: Barbara Streisand, Paul McCartney, and Michael Jackson, just to name a few! You don’t need them – if anything, they need you!
Rise above this, bb! It’s not worth your time!
P.S. – Nathan Followill, KOL├óΓé¼Γäós drummer, has sent his own personal message to Ryan via his Twitter. It├óΓé¼Γäós not very friendly, to say the least.
