As we mentioned last month, singer Akon was due back in court today on charges of harassment and endangering the welfare of a minor.
Remember, in June of 2007 Akon threw a 15 year-old concertgoer off the stage in a misguided display of machismo.
Well, today the judge decided that Akon will stand trial in December.
He’s likely to face up to one year and 15 days in jail if convicted.
He might just pay up and settle out of court if his odds of going to jail are great.
The victim, now 16, also appeared at court today with his parents. The kid and his mom declined to comment, but his dad did say, “We didn’t expect this to happen. We’ll see.”
As for Akon, his people have issued their own statement.
It says, “We are pleased that Judge Epstein adjourned the case to a date certain for either a trial or a negotiated resolution. Akon looks forward to putting this incident behind him, and in the meantime he will continue to meet every requirement set forth by the Court.”
Akon is due back in court on December 1st if they don’t settle before.
He’ll settle!
