We have mixed feelings about this.
Mixed feelings, because we don’t want to see just part two of what they did the first time. Yeah, sure, Ryan Reynolds is staggeringly seksi, but the movie was terrible.
Glad we got that off our chests!
The other side of those mixed feelings is that we definitely think he deserves another shot as long as they get serious about what they’re doing. And that second shot has been granted:
The Los Angeles Times spoke with Warner Bros. film group President Jeff Robinov, who admitted that there will be a second go round for The Green Lantern, though there will be some major changes for the sequel.
“We had a decent opening so we learned there is an audience,” he said. “To go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action…. And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth.”
We don’t agree 100% with what Jeff said there. Yes, it does need to be edgier and darker, but it needs to take less emphasis on CGI and to make sure all of the action is freaking awesome while still being justified.
It scares us that he might think that all it needs is more fighting. Superhero movies can be smart and still make money. Take that risk and make it incredible instead of passable!
