hagen mills dies by suicide after botched murder-suicide attempt

Actor Hagen Mills, who appeared on TV series such as Baskets, died on Tuesday in a suspected murder-suicide attempt which played out in front of his young daughter.

The Kentucky native split his time between Hollywood and his hometown of Mayfield, where his former partner Erica Price and 4-year-old daughter lived. The 29-year-old’s mother shared with TMZ that he “loved acting,” but his “true passion” was his young daughter.

On Tuesday, Mills held his daughter and Price’s mother hostage at home until Price returned home that evening, per a Mayfield Police Department press release. Price suffered gunshot wounds to her arm and chest, but managed to run outside and call 911, where she was met by authorities who arrived on the scene.

Erica was taken to the hospital and was in stable condition as of Wednesday. Her mother and daughter were both luckily unharmed, but Mills was pronounced dead on the scene.

As for his past, according to Graves County Jail records, Mills was released on a bond back on April 14 for a multitude of charges including rape, sodomy, domestic violence, kidnapping of both an adult and a child, and possession of methamphetamine and steroids, for which he was arrested on March 30.

Additional jail records for Mills date back to 2009, including domestic violence in 2018, driving under the influence, and being intoxicated in a public place. He was arrested at least four times since 2016.

His last credited role is the upcoming indie horror movie, Star Light, set for an August release. The flick’s producer, Cheryl Dillard Starulakis shared with WSPD Local:

“We were shocked and saddened to hear of the events occurring yesterday involving Hagen Mills who was a cast member of our film Star Light. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Hagen’s family and his daughter and all others impacted by this tragic day.”
