Halsey and John Mayer are finally setting the record straight about their relationship.
After shamelessly flirting with each other on Instagram and previously denying any romance rumors, the singers took to social media to address “the elephant in the room” about whether or not they’re dating.

On John’s new Instagram Live show called Current Mood, Halsey popped in for a Q&A filled with laughs and giant cue cards giving us the answers we’ve been waiting for.
The pair kicked things off by playing the not-so-subtle “Are They Dating”. After a melodramatic drumroll from Mayer, the Bad At Love singer holds up a cue card that reads, “No.”
So, there you have it! These two aren’t an item after all. But the next obvious question of course, is why not?
If this IG Live session showed us one thing, it’s that these two are actually pretty adorable together. Not to mention, a collaboration together would sound pretty, epic too. But both artists straight up agree that though they get on just fine as friends, their personalities would absolutely clash in a romantic setting.
Mayer explains:
“The fact that we’re both alpha types, while not prohibitive, would make a romantic relationship difficult, especially when compounded by the fact that we’re both highly driven and creative artists who value our independence.”
Halsey lightheartedly backs him up, saying:
“For being my not-boyfriend, you really do know me so well.”
