The high school student who allegedly attacked her competitor in a track meet is facing criminal charges.

Both girls have given their perspective on the incident, with Alaila insisting it was an accident, but now she’s facing legal trouble. TMZ got word from the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Office on Thursday that the alleged perpetrator has been charged with assault and battery following the Virginia State High School League Championships. The outlet also revealed Kaelen’s dad has filed a protective order for the teen amid the police investigation.
