Hot Chocolate Vs. Eggnog: The Ultimate Showdown

Two holiday favorites, both not the healthiest drink in town. But, one of them has to have the edge, right?
We prefer hot chocolate taste wise, so let’s get that out of the way. That might not be the case for everyone, and that doesn’t mean it’s healthier than the nog.
Let’s break it down:
Eggnog is made of whole milk, cream, eggs and sugar. Just half a cup of it has 180 calories and 6 grams of saturated fat, which is 30% of the daily limit. Plus it doesn’t taste as good.
Hot Chocolate, depending on how you make it, will have about 175 calories per cup, 3 grams of saturated fat per cup. That’s not with whipped cream, though, and if you indulge with that it easily goes higher, around 210 calories.
The thing is this, then: Eggnog has a whole crapload of calcium from its ingredients. 13 percent of your daily dose.
Hot chocolate? You can tailor it to make it better for you and to slash some of that bad stuff and still keep the flavor. It can even give you an awesome dose of antioxidants if you use the right kind of powder. Not to mention if you us skim milk you straight up get rid of 55 calories right there. Boom.
The two drinks really are similar, but hot chocolate has the edge. Which is good news for us, because we were pulling for that.
But that doesn’t mean you should drink gallons of it a day: it’s still not very good for you.
As always, drink in moderation, folks! It’s the best way there is!
