Angus Cloud is gone but not forgotten.
Euphoria season 3 premiered on Sunday night marking a five-year in-universe time jump after the sophomore entry. Fans will remember the cliffhanger season 2 ending involving Angus’ character Fezco shot and bleeding in his home after a confrontation with law enforcement resulting in his arrest.
Tragically, Angus died of an accidental drug overdose in July 2023, more than a year after season 2 of the HBO drama concluded. So how does the show go about explaining his resounding absence in the new season after such a shocking season 2 finale? Well, the premiere episode explained it all.

During a scene involving Zendaya’s character Rue Bennett and Maude Apatow’s character Lexi Howard, a love interest of Fez’s in season 2, Rue implores Lexi to get in touch with him:
“You know, you really should call Fez.”
Rue explains that he really misses her, but Lexi responds with an excuse that she’s just been far too busy to get around to it. And that’s when Rue reveals his character’s fate:
“Just pick up the phone and call him. It’s not like he’s going anywhere. He’s in prison for 30 years.”
So that’s how they’ll get around his absence…
At the LA premiere last week, show creator Sam Levinson told Variety more about Fez’s role in the new season:
“There are a lot of scenes where people are either talking to him on the phone. I thought that if I couldn’t keep him alive in life then maybe within this show that I can control and keep him alive there.”
That’s so sad! He added:
“I think the whole thing was to honor him and also I can’t wait for you to see the last few episodes. I think he would be cracking up at his story line. I think he would love it.”
As for what fans thought, they wrote across social media:

“So they not gon explain what happened to fez and ashtray?!?”
