New details continue to emerge following the heartbreaking death of former child star Daveigh Chase, and the latest development is shedding light on both her surprisingly large estate and the difficult circumstances surrounding her final months.
According to a brand-new report from TMZ on Monday, Daveigh’s mother, Cathy Chase, has filed court documents asking to be appointed as the administrator of her late daughter’s estate. The filing states that the actress was never married and did not have any children, per the outlet, which should make the legal process surrounding the dispensation of Daveigh’s assets relatively straightforward.

One detail that may surprise many fans is the reported value of what Daveigh left behind. TMZ reports that court filings estimate she had approximately $400,000 in personal property at the time of her death.

Nearly half a million dollars is quite a hefty sum-total of cash and other assets! So, while her final living situation sparked concern among those who knew her, the documents suggest the late former child star still possessed significant assets.
The filing also reportedly mentions Daveigh’s father, John Schwailler, and identifies him as someone who spends time living in both Las Vegas and the Philippines. But according to TMZ, Cathy told the court that she does not know his overseas address — information that the outlet notes could become relevant as the estate moves through probate.
The financial details arrive just weeks after more tragic information about the actress’s passing became public. Of course, as we previously reported, Daveigh died back on June 16 at just 35 years old. Officials later ruled that her cause of death was acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) together with drug use. Her death was officially classified as resulting from natural causes.
The revelations have been especially difficult for longtime fans because they follow reports about the troubling conditions surrounding Daveigh’s final months. As we noted, friends had been desperately trying to locate her after receiving a video that appeared to show her living in an RV near Los Angeles’ Skid Row area. Those close to her reportedly became increasingly worried as they searched for answers.
For many people, Daveigh will always be remembered for her memorable performances during her years as a successful young actress. And to know she still apparently had so many financial assets, but wasn’t able to get the right kind of help with them, is just… ugh.
