How The Power Of Taylor Swift Is Helping This Teen Literally Get Her Voice Back After Coma!

How Taylor Swift Helped This Teen Literally Get Her Voice Back After Coma!

This is so stinkin’ sweet!!

Kennedy Alexander, at just 17, was sadly left in an induced coma after a 14 hour surgery complication left her lungs too weak to work on their own. Back in July 2022, the teen was intubated for weeks after her lung collapsed and she experienced dangerous levels of blood loss.

But thankfully, she did end up making a recovery — and she says Taylor Swift‘s music helped her! The now 20-year-old told People in an interview on Wednesday:

“I remember being very angry and frustrated [after I woke up]. I would try to use my voice, but no noise would come out … It wasn’t until a week after being extubated that I was able to make a peep.”

This is when Taylor came into the picture! She said:

“My therapist heard I was a big fan of Taylor, so we decided to implement her music and her newly released album, [1989, Taylor’s Version], into my therapy routine.”

This was a HUGE thing for her, because she’s a longtime Swiftie:

“As far back as my memory goes, Taylor’s music has always been there.”

She added that Is It Over Now? became a big staple in her recovery, too:

“I can only remember using Is It Over Now in therapy because it was the most challenging in terms of word speed and enunciation.”

my brain was slow and my tongue and lips muscles were sorta weak so I had to work on enunciation and shit ???????? and my vocal chords. Once my therapist found out I was a swiftie, she had an amazing idea ????#fypシ #fyppppppppppppppppppppppp #fyp

Kennedy said since going on social media, her story has given her a way to connect with other Tay Tay fans:

“I think it’s cool that so many people understood it as a good thing that I used Taylor’s music. I love reading all the comments.”

How sweet! She was even able to use Taylor lyrics on her graduation cap in 2024, which were “I gave my blood, sweat, and tears for this”. These lyrics are from her song You’re On Your Own Kid:

“I claim [that] as a song that deeply resonates with me and my life. I was proud to graduate with that quote written across my grad cap!”

Kennedy is doing a lot better now, but every day she’s still using Taylor’s music to help her deal with long-term struggles. We’re so glad she was able to make a recovery and share her story.

Sending love!
