Ever wonder why you suddenly get a horrible headache in the middle of the day?
This could be a withdrawal symptom from such food stimulants such as sugar, white flour, chocolate, coffee, and alcohol.
Yes, food addiction can definitely result in getting extremely unpleasant headaches, intense cravings, and worst of all, depression and anxiety.
The biggest culprit is white sugar. Author Dr. Colbin says:
“To metabolize refined sugar, the body draws out the missing companion nutrients (needed as catalysts in the digestive process) from other sources. The ‘other sources’ can be additional foods eaten during the meal, or else your body strips the micronutrients from its own tissues. We lose B vitamins, calcium, phosphorus, [and] iron . . . from our own reserves.”
When this happens, our bodies respond by sending out a hunger signal to search for foods with essential nutrients.
For example, to get rid of cravings for sugars found in cookies, cakes, ice cream, etc., include more whole grains and fruit in your diet. Instead of relying on coffee to give you a burst of of energy, try eating a salad or just add more vegetables. The same goes for salt. Alcohol is also one of the biggest culprits so maybe trying nonalcoholic beer or healthy 100% fruit juices to satisfy the cravings.
Even just a few simple changes to your daily diet can hopefully result in less cravings and less withdrawal symptoms making for a much more happier day!
