'Nothing Tastes As Good As Skinny Feels' Unless It's A Big Slap Of Body Positive Justice! See How This Kate Moss-Inspired T-Shirt Sparked Major Backlash!

It must’ve seemed like a good idea at the time!
We really can’t quite believe a company would promote a t-shirt that has such a pro-eating disorder message on it. Surely, they should’ve known better!
But, well, the Hudson’s Bay Co. didn’t know better when they put this Christopher Sauv├â┬⌐-designed t-shirt that reads “Nothing Tastes As Good As Skinny Feels” over a nutrition label up for sale. You may remember that quote as being attributed to Kate Moss, and in recent years it’s been taken up as a sort of mantra for many pro-anorexia or pro-bulimia websites.
Putting it on a t-shirt only fuels those flames. The backlash was swift, however, as people criticized the company on Twitter for selling such an inappropriate item, and the company has since removed it from their site.
They also issued a statement:

“We truly value our relationship with our customers and take their concerns seriously and we recognize that many took offense to the item. In this particular instance, while we respect the designer’s art, due to the overwhelming response and the sensitivity of the matter, we made the decision to promptly remove the T-shirts from our stores and from thebay.com.”

The shirt’s designer issued an apology as well, but also explained the satirical nature behind his work. You can read his full statement HERE. He said:

In lieu (sic) of the recent allegations insisting that one particular t-shirt I designed for my last CLS collection, ├óΓé¼┼ôNothing Tastes As Good As Skinny Feels├óΓé¼┬¥, is in any way celebrating the severity of eating and body disorders is just not the case. As an artist, I got my start by making a mockery of the fashion industry as a whole. It├óΓé¼Γäós an industry I├óΓé¼Γäóve long followed and admired for decades, and it├óΓé¼Γäós also an industry that begs to be mocked. Fashion is created to be either celebrated, adored, or hated and deplored. Quite like the industry itself. The particular t-shirt in question showcases an infamous quote by supermodel Kate Moss, as a nutrition label. Like all of my designs, it├óΓé¼Γäós a glorified warning, an ode to the farcicality of the fashion industry and the obsessives that surround it.”

While we agree that fashion can be ridiculous and does deserve to be mocked at times, the problem with the t-shirt is that many people would’ve misunderstood it or taken it at face-value.
Maybe the shirt’s satirical message wouldn’t have been lost if there was another quote on the back that said something like “Chocolate/pizza/roasted broccoli/whatever taste as good as skinny feels.” Or even said “just kidding” with an image of a hamburger.
We’d buy that for sure!
Thoughts???
