A woman has gone viral on TikTok after sharing footage from her experience on the “shortest first date ever.”
Influencer Maggie Smith has broken the hearts of millions after posting footage from a date gone wrong over the weekend. In the clip, Maggie optimistically tells the camera:
“I put makeup on just for this date so it better go well.”

In the footage, the social media user looked wonderful in eyeliner, mascara, blush — pretty much the whole nine yards. She paired it with a blue blouse and a purple bow pulling back her long tresses. She did, however, add:
“I’m not posting this probably if it doesn’t [go well].”
Then, just seconds later, the clip cuts to Maggie appearing defeated in the front seat of her car. She says:
“It did not go well. Truthfully, it lasted less than two minutes. I walked up, he gave me a hug and said, ‘Are you hungry? Let’s go inside.’ We went inside, he said, ‘Actually, can you step outside for a minute?’ and I stepped back outside, and he said, ‘I’m not trying to offend you, but I’m just not feeling it.’ So I walked to my car and came back home.”
Seemingly fighting back tears, the TikToker heartbreakingly adds:
“Dating when you’re fat sucks.”
The whole clip is only 38 seconds. Watch (below):
@mcgonagallsays I think I’m going to be taking a break from dating. I just can’t do this anymore.
How awful! Poor Maggie!
Not to mention things only became more difficult for her when a few haters in the comments defended the dude who blew her off AND bashed her for thinking “it’s ok to be fat.” Seriously. People are CRUEL!!! See (below):

Her story has made such a wave online that People reached out to her for an interview. In it, the 32-year-old laid out all her cards on the table. She told the outlet:
“The dating scene is tough for everyone, but it feels more superficial than ever in recent years. I have met people organically, on the apps, and my most recent ex…well, I met him on [X (Twitter)].”
But it was when she got out of a “toxic relationship” over the summer that she began to document her dating stories online. She dished:
“My friends shared about their very similar stories and I realized that many of us are in the same boat. I didn’t want anyone else to feel as alone as I did, so I made my first [TikTok] post about my cheating ex-boyfriend and the lies he told me.”
Fast forward to now, and she’s taken the internet by storm with her viral “shortest first date ever” story. Speaking with the outlet, she admitted she was “mortified” by her date’s actions. And not only that, but she revealed that on top of abruptly ending their time together, he did it in front of other people:
“In the moment, I was mortified. He brought me outside in front of a group of people to say it and my mind went blank. I just said ‘okay,’ and started walking to my car in shock. As I walked away, he felt the need to say, ‘I’m sorry, it’s your weight.’ I didn’t ask, because I didn’t care. I didn’t know him. I wasn’t heartbroken, just embarrassed.”
Holy s**t… That is SO messed up. We really are living in such a superficial age!
Even if the dude wasn’t attracted to her, why wouldn’t he at least take the opportunity to have a nice conversation and a meal with a new friend?? People are mean! Maggie added:
“Preferences are reasonable, but I think there is a way to treat others with dignity. I don’t think he was trying to be unkind, but it certainly felt like a low blow in the moment.”
There’s no way it couldn’t have!
Since going viral, the Alabama native says she’s been “blown away by the vulnerable messages” shared by strangers detailing their own personal experiences, or even just sending along encouraging words. And now, in retrospect, she says she would have handled the situation differently if given another opportunity:
“[I would have] walked back inside and gotten dinner, because I definitely forgot to eat dinner altogether. But I don’t regret not saying anything. He had wasted enough of my time at that point and I don’t think he deserved the validation of me asking questions or responding.”
What a positive way to think about it! No man is going to keep her down! Ultimately, she told the outlet:
“I will say, outside of violence … my worst case scenario has always been something like this happening. And, well, it happened and I’m still here. So that means it’s only up from here, right? … Ultimately, I’ve spent this year falling in love with myself again, and if someone isn’t able to love me the way I love myself, it’s a pass.”
Good for her!
