The last place that needs this drama is a rehab facility!
The Betty Ford Center, which has famously treated drug and alcohol addicted patients for nearly 30 years, may be in trouble.
Sources say their is an unpublicized battle (until now) being waged internally and executives have pushed Betty Ford‘s daughter, Susan Ford Bales, out of her board chairwoman position, effectively preventing her from succeeding her mother!
The division is causing prominent financial donors to stop writing checks supporting the program in outrage that their is no longer a Ford family member on the board.
Although the board’s version of the story is that they’re continuing to guide the center as Ford envisioned, a letter Betty wrote herself to a board member that was dismissed says otherwise:
“Having been involved in politics for all those many years with my husband, I thought I was thick-skinned about such things. I never expected that a majority of the Betty Ford Center board would find itself so misguided. I can only hope that a clearer focus will be regained soon so that the center can re-establish a sure footing from which to move into the future.”
In what we HOPE is NOT a dark omen, a former patient and financial supporter of the treatment center believes, “An act of betrayal like that is cancerous, and it will destroy an organization,├óΓé¼┬¥
We hope this board gets itself straightened out and gets back in line with Betty’s vision!
