Japan Tops The Record For Most Tweets Per Second With "Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu"

Roughly translated, that means Happy New Year – which it certainly must have been in Japan.

According to Twitter, users in Japan set a new record for tweets per second in the moments just after the country entered the year 2011.

Reportedly, a total of 6,939 tweets per second were sent just seconds after the clock struck midnight in Japan. This new record is almost twice the one set previously last summer when Japan beat Denmark. (3,283 tweets per second)
