Though Jay Z has decided to go ahead with his Barneys collection following all the racial profiling controversy, prominent figures in the African-American community have criticized his decision.
Andre Leon Talley, former editor-at-large for Vogue, recently said:
“Any African-American, male or female, with any consciousness of what has happened would not go into Barneys right now. Nor Macy’s.”
He also added that if he were in Jay’s shoes, ├óΓé¼┼ôfor the simplicity of making a broad statement I would pull out.├óΓé¼┬¥
On the other hand, maybe Jay Z can work with the store to prevent this type of thing from happening again. As he said in his statement:
“I have agreed to move forward with the launch of BNY SCC collection under the condition that I have a leadership role and seat on a council specifically convened to deal with the issue of racial profiling. The easy position would have been to walk away and leave policy making to others hoping that someone addresses the problem. I will not leave the outcome to others.”
He makes a good point!
What do U think, Perezcious readers? Should Jay Z have pulled out of this collaboration???
