What a mistake that would have been!
During an interview at the Toronto International Film Festival, Jennifer Lawrence revealed she almost turned down the starring role as Katniss Everdeen in her biggest movie to date — The Hunger Games.
The young A-list star revealed she took three days to mull over the most important decision of her career because:
“Just saying yes to this one thing could completely change my life, and I don’t know if it’s going to be for the better.”
Luckily, her mother stepped in told her what was up, as Lawrence continued:
“She was like, `You’re being a hypocrite, because you always say you don’t care about the size of the movies.’ Because when I was doing indies, everybody was always like, `Why don’t you ever do a studio?’ I’d say, `Because I don’t care about the size of the movie. I care about the story.’ And my mom was like, `Now you have a story you like, and you’re not going to do it because of the size.'”
And we’re so glad she listened to those words of wisdom (and hope she bought mommy dearest a new car in appreciation)! Thanks to her mom and the experience, Lawrence learned a valuable lesson and revealed:
“The truth was, in the bottom of my heart, I wanted to do it. I wanted to play this character. I was scared of the aftermath, but you can’t say no to things because you’re scared. You just have to go for it.”
Now she’s about to go for it again and try to top the first installment’s success since production on the highly anticipated sequel, Catching Fire, is about to begin!
Good luck, gurl!
