Mad Max Costume Designer Jenny Beavan Explains Her Leather Oscars Outfit After THAT 'Bag Lady' Comment

Jenny Beavan explains her Oscars outfit!
Jenny Beavan
was staying true to herself at the Oscars!
While she didn’t exactly get a supportive reception as she accepted her award on Sunday night, the Mad Max: Fury Road costume designer was undeniably confident in her faux leather jacket and black pants.
ICYMI: She got some flack for her casual outfit at the BAFTAs earlier in February, with the host, Stephen Fry, jokingly calling her a “bag lady.” Afterwards, the British comedian eventually quit Twitter after receiving backlash from his comment.

Well, that didn’t affect Jenny’s decision to keep it cool at Hollywood’s biggest night, as she was even explaining her fashion choices backstage, admitting:

“I am very happy to talk about it. I don’t do frocks and absolutely don’t do heels, I have a bad back. I look ridiculous in a beautiful gown. This was a homage to Mad Max and I obviously didn’t get it quite right at the BAFTAs, the scarf was meant to be an oil rag.”

And speaking about her jacket, the multiple Oscar-winner shared:

“This is Marks & Spencer with Swarovski at the back. I had a bit of a shoe malfunction and the glitter fell off. I just like feeling comfortable and as far as I’m concerned I’m really dressed up.”

Considering the award show is very much black-tie, Jenny was definitely daring to be different, but who cares??
She went home a winner regardless what anyone thought of her outfit!
