Jessica Simpson Claims She Turned Down 'The Notebook' -- And WASN'T ALLOWED To Do Kissing Scenes!

Jessica Simpson The Notebook Ryan Gosling Rachel McAdams Sex Scene Open Book

OK, Jessica Simpson drops some shocking details in her memoir, but this is the most unbelievable of all — we mean, who in their right mind refuses to simulate sex with Ryan Gosling??

The I Belong To Me singer revealed yet another one of those fun movie-castings-that-almost-was in Open Book by offhandedly mentioning she was offered the role of Allie in The Notebook before Rachel McAdams — but turned it down!

The revelation is actually at a point in the book just after Jessica has left Nick Lachey — that is a whole other story, one we highly recommend you catch up on HERE — and she’s on a flight.

She writes:

“The statement [about the split] went out while I was in the air, but nobody on the plane knew a thing, except that Jessica Simpson was loudly sobbing in first class. Then they announced that the movie we all had to watch was The Notebook. ‘Oh God,’ I thought. The most romantic movie in the world and I was leaving Nick.”

She hadn’t actually seen the movie, but she was all too familiar with the plot…

“I knew exactly what the movie was about because I had read the script.”

Yep. She read it because she was in consideration for the female lead. However, she claims it was her decision not to take part in the Nicholas Sparks adaptation “because they wouldn’t budge on taking out the sex scene.”

If you’re thinking, Hey there isn’t even any nudity in The Notebook, you have to remember where Jessica’s career was at the time. She was both a pastor’s daughter AND sex symbol. She was desperately trying to exist simultaneously as both poster girl for abstinence and just plain poster girl, so ANY fake sex wasn’t going to fly.

Not that Jessica was happy about having to turn down the movie though. She complains:

“And it would have been with Ryan Gosling, of all people.”

See, earlier in the book she describes meeting Ryan at an audition for The Mickey Mouse Club and reveals he was her first “hard crush.” So it was real tough call to turn it down.

Innerestingly though, it would not be the last time she had to turn down a movie because of romantic content.

Years after her split from Nick, the former reality star began dating Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. And he was apparently a jealous, controlling d-bag! Forget sex scenes, while on his leash, Jessica wasn’t allowed to film KISSING! She writes:

“One of the few parameters he put on the relationship was actually a big one: He didn’t want me to do any movies that required an on-camera kiss, which basically ruled out any romantic comedy, the type of movie for which I was most likely to be cast.”

What the serious eff?!

Jessica actually gives her ex more credit than we do reading this; she says:

“I get it, some people can’t handle another person making out with their girlfriend — even for work — but there were only so many plucky fish-out-of-water stories with no male romantic leads. I think it was more about how he would be perceived than the love scene actually happening. What would people think of him for allowing that to happen?”

Seriously?! How insecure do you have to be?!

In Tony’s defense, Jessica reminds readers she did have an emotional affair with Johnny Knoxville on the set of Dukes of Hazzard while married to Nick Lachey, something she says her new beau was worried would happen again.

“I didn’t have a good defense for that, I’ll admit… But I would never have done that to Tony,”

We would have pointed out Jessica and Johnny were playing cousins in that movie, so kissing scenes had nothing to do with that — just meeting did. Was he really going to lock her up so she’d never see other men? Oh geez, maybe he would have…

Do YOU wish you could watch a version of The Notebook with Jessica Simpson??
