Isn’t this friendship amazing??
Johnny Depp has been one of the West Memphis Three‘s most passionate supporters.
Throughout their time spent in jail and beyond, Johnny has lent his SEKSI platform to raise awareness on their story — one that many believe to be a great example of a flawed justice system.
But despite the horrors Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley faced during their 18 years behind bars, they’re able to enjoy their freedom.
And Damien credits Johnny in some of that, saying:
“If it wasn├óΓé¼Γäót for Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh and Johnny, really we would have nowhere to go and nothing to do when I got out. We left Arkansas like refugees, just running. It├óΓé¼Γäós not like they stopped when we got out of prison├óΓé¼┬ª If it wasn├óΓé¼Γäót for them, we wouldn├óΓé¼Γäót have had absolutely nothing, not a change of clothes, not a place to sleep, nothing.”
Damien & Johnny were seen hanging out together at the Toronto Film Festival where Amy Berg‘s West of Memphis documentary premiered.
Johnny made it a point to say:
“I don├óΓé¼Γäót think of myself as a celebrity. I├óΓé¼Γäóm here, as Peter (Jackson) said, as a friend. If there are people out there who will take a minute to listen to what I have to say, or what these guys have to say, they will learn a lot more about this case.”
Incredible!!
We always love seeing celebrities use their platforms for something positive!
And we really love seeing the photos! Ha!
