While we’re obviously very excited to see Johnny Depp play Tonto in The Lone Ranger, we have to admit it├óΓé¼Γäós kind of hard to actually SEE him behind his extensive face paint!!
And that had us wondering: why would anyone try to cover that magnificent mug up??
Unfortunately, we don’t have the answer to that. We DO however, have confirmation that you weren’t alone if you didn’t recognize him at first!
Joel Harlow, Tonto’s makeup artist, recently opened up about the first time Depp donned full Tonto makeup. Joel made him up, snapped some pics, and then he and Johnny took the pictures to Johnny Depp├óΓé¼Γäós long-time collaborator, Jerry Bruckheimer.
Joel recalled:
├óΓé¼┼ôJohnny showed it to Jerry and Jerry said, ‘This is great; who is this?'”
LOLz! Yeah, we didn’t know either at first glance!
Good thing we’re also able to instantly identify a sexpot’s voice when we hear one!!
