Johnny Depp Remembers Jonathan Frid, The Original Barnabas Collins!

Just as Ryan Seacrest mourns Dick Clark‘s death, Johnny Depp is remembering a man who greatly influenced his life.
It was such a shame when we had to tell you Jonathan Frid died yesterday. The original Dark ShadowsBarnabas Collins passed away peacefully last Friday the 13th (though the news just hit Wednesday).
Upon news of the death, Johnny went to scribe a beautiful statement on the actor’s passing.
Ever so eloquently, he says:

Jonathan Frid was the reason I used to run home from school to watch Dark Shadows. His elegance and grace was an inspiration then and will continue to remain one forever more. When I had the honor to finally meet him, as he so generously passed the torch of Barnabas to me, he was as elegant and magical as I had always imagined. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. The world has lost a true original.

It’s official. Johnny is talented at everything he does, even writing eulogies…
One of Jonathan’s co-stars, Kathryn Leigh Scott, also came forward to remember her friend and reflected back to when the two men met. She recalls:

I won’t ever forget the moment when the two Barnabas Collinses met, one in his late 80s and the other in his mid-40s, each with their wolf’s head canes. Jonathan took his time scrutinizing his successor’s appearance. ‘I see you’ve done the hair,’ Jonathan said to Johnny Depp, ‘but a few more spikes.’ Depp, entirely in character, replied, ‘Yes, we’re doing things a bit differently.’

LOL!! CLASSIC!!
Frid was a great man. He played such an important role in pop-culture history, and he’ll truly be missed.
But that’s why we’re even more jazzed about catching Dark Shadows on the big screen May 11!!
Like we said yesterday, his spirit will live on via cameo!!!
