Not only did Joshua and Katie Holmes play on-screen lovers in Dawson’s Creek, but they also dated in real life in 1998! The relationship ended in heartbreak, though! They broke up after only a year together! And they seemingly have no plans to rekindle the romance now, despite reconnecting for their new movie Happy Hour! Sorry, Jacey fans!
Brittany Daniel
Joshua moved on from Katie with another Dawson’s Creek co-star — Brittany Daniel, who appeared on four episodes as Eve Whitman on the teen drama! They were romantically linked in October 1999, the same year the Sweet Valley High actress starred on the show, after they stepped out together at the Radio Music Awards. Their romance came to an end shortly afterward, though.
Rosario Dawson
In 2002, Joshua began dating Rosario Dawson. They reportedly were together on and off for about a year before calling it quits in 2003. Despite the breakup, they have remained good friends!
Diane Kruger
Joshua famously dated Diane Kruger for 10 years, starting in 2006! And no, they never got married during that time! Joshua once told Us Weekly six years into their romance that neither of them felt “any particular push” to tie the knot, and they didn’t find it necessarily “important” to them — but he stressed, “Never say never.” Well, they didn’t make it down the aisle. In fact, they broke up in July 2016, reportedly after Diane fell in love with her Sky co-star Norman Reedus. They’re still an item and have a daughter, Nova Tennessee, FYI!
Shafia West
In the summer of 2017, Joshua began seeing model Shafia West. They were spotted walking arm-in-arm at a farmer’s market in Los Angeles. However, they were over by the end of that same year.
Alyssa Julya Smith
E! News confirmed in June 2018 that Joshua was dating Cheddar TV host Alyssa Julya Smith “for several months” by that point. Things cooled off between them a few months later.
Jodie Turner-Smith
Joshua has only been married once in his life so far, and that was to Jodie Turner-Smith! They began dating in October 2018 after having “a one-night stand,” and tied the knot a year later in December 2019 — four months before welcoming their daughter, Juno. But alas, their marriage didn’t last! Jodie and Joshua broke up in September 2023, and they finalized their divorce two years later. However, the exes got into a bit of a nasty fight when it came to figuring out custody of their kid. Thankfully, they eventually worked it out!
Lupita Nyong’o
Following his breakup from Jodie, Joshua was seen with Lupita Nyong’o at a Janelle Monae concert in October 2023. They continued to be spotted together in the months that followed, including while on a PDA-packed trip to Mexico for her 41st birthday in March of the following year. However, the duo eventually went their separate ways. Lupita confirmed the split to Harper’s Bazaar U.K. in October 2024 after he was spotted hanging out with a model, saying:
“My love for my cat is singular. If I’m ever so lucky to be in a romantic relationship again, it’ll be because of him.”

Joshua went out with German model and brand manager Nastassja Roberts in September 2024. DeuxMoi posted pics of the pair outside of the premiere of Ryan Murphy‘s Grotesquerie in New York City. Simone Ashley
Joshua was caught holding hands with Bridgerton actress Simone Ashley in August 2025! Although we thought something was brewing between these two, it seems they didn’t go very far! She was seen kissing businessman Tim Sykes weeks later!
Olivia Burgess
His current lady? The Affair alum sparked dating rumors with model and dancer Olivia Burgess in June 2026. They were spotted holding hands while walking around New York City. We’ll see how this relationship will last! Will they be endgame? Or should we expect to add another name to this already long list in the future? Time will tell!
