Lupita Nyong’o and Joshua Jackson are officially done.
In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the 41-year-old actress confirmed what we’d all been fearing — her love story with the 46-year-old actor has come to an end. While promoting her movie Wild Robot on Wednesday, she was asked to confirm her relationship status.
There was so much excitement over her fling with the Dawson’s Creek alum… but it’s over now. She said her cat Yoyo is the only man in her life right now:
“My love for my cat is singular. If I’m ever so lucky to be in a romantic relationship again, it’ll be because of him. I was ready to shut that door and lock it and bolt it. He has ensured that my heart remains open.”
She was “ready to shut that door and lock it”?? Oh no… That doesn’t sound like the breakup went well!
Fun fact: Lupita was actually afraid of cats until she had to co-star with one in A Quiet Place: Day One. Now she loves Yoyo so much! It really does sound like he’s opened her heart…

We don’t know anything about her breakup with Josh… But in another part of the interview, Lupita did address the aftermath of her breakups. And without naming any names directly, it painted a sad picture:
“You go through a lot of like, ‘Why? What were the signs? Why didn’t I see them? And if I did, why didn’t I act on them?’ Also, replaying moments and thinking, ‘Oh, I felt this apprehension, and I ignored it. Why did I ignore it?’ It can get toxic to beat yourself up about a past you can’t change, but it’s also an opportunity to learn about yourself.”
That’s a good way to look at it! Although it doesn’t stop the hurt.
Of course, the signs were pretty clear for us this time. Split rumors started to swirl at the end of September when Joshua was spotted out and about with model Nastassja Roberts in NYC. Seems like he’s already started to move on. And not with a feline companion…

Of course, Joshua moved on relatively quickly with Lupita after his split from wife and baby momma Jodie Turner-Smith, too. Innerestingly, she recently told Glamour she’s “over men” after dealing with the Pacey divorce. So sounds like that was a bad breakup, too. Huh. The man has a type AND an M.O. from the sounds of it…
