The public may only now be learning about the alleged affair between New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and former The Athletic reporter Dianna Russini. But apparently, certain people in the NFL world knew about it for years!
As you know, the pair, who are both married, sparked cheating rumors this month when pictures surfaced of them holding hands, hugging, having breakfast together, hanging out at a casino after his 2024 Titans firing, and even seemingly kissing in a New York City bar, which occurred all the way back in 2020! An interview also resurfaced in which Dianna got flirty with Mike — and he disrespected his wife — five years after the alleged kiss! Ugh! What gross behavior from both of them!

And if the accusations are true, the alleged affair has been going on behind most people’s backs for a while! We aren’t saying everyone here because, as it turns out, those who have worked in NFL media were well aware of the too-close-for-comfort relationship between Mike and Dianna for a long time! Boston Globe reporter Ben Violin made the jaw-dropping claim on the Boston Globe Podcast on Thursday, saying:
“I think those of us who have worked in NFL media have known that the two have had a relationship for a long time and I think certainly these photos are coming out. How much more is going to come out now?”
Damn! Those two didn’t hide their alleged infidelity as well as they may have thought then! But also, did anyone think to tell their spouses about these suspicions?
As Violin went on to point out, Mike and Dianna’s “defiant” response in the beginning to the rumors screwed them in the long run:
“You talked about the response, I think where they made a real error was being so defiant up front. You know, Vrabel said it was a laughable, laughable for anyone to think that there was anything inappropriate between him and Diana and then Diana, even in her resignation, you know, didn’t really accept responsibility but put the blame on the media frenzy when I think it’s very reasonable for adults to to conclude, you know, maybe what was going on between the two.”
Honestly, if Mike and Dianna did have an affair, they should’ve owned up to it the second the rumors started. The scandal might have already died down by this point if they had — at least leveling out to a lower temperature than where it is now, but now they’ll never know. And still, they’re continuing to make it worse by skirting around the subject. Even in his press conference, Mike wouldn’t outright say the affair word:
“I take accountability for my actions and for the actions that caused distraction to the people that I care most about — my family, this football team, the organization and the fans. My previous actions don’t meet the standards that I hold myself to, they don’t.”
Too late to half-ass taking “accountability,” bud. Watch the podcast discussion of the alleged affair scandal (below):
