Are blackface controversies black and white? That’s the question of the day after a reporter reminded Twitter that Joy Behar once dressed up as a “beautiful African woman” for Halloween.
On Wednesday, a 2016 clip of The View host confessing to wearing blackface in the 70s resurfaced, causing critics to demand that — just like others caught wearing blackface in the past — she be fired.
In the clip (below), the comedienne shared a photo of herself dressed as a black woman at a Halloween party when she was 29 years old. The 76-year-old explained that while the curls in her hair were all real, the makeup was “a little bit darker than my skin.”

The crowd and panel, for the most part, seemed unfazed by the inappropriate memory — save for a baffled Raven Symone, who couldn’t help but comment:
“Joy, are you black? Are you my auntie, Joy? Do you have tanning lotion on?”
The resurfaced clip has Twitics divided.
Some are saying that if Megyn Kelly got fired for simply talking about blackface, Joy should be fired for actually wearing it. Others argue that Joy’s costume was clearly out of admiration, while classic cases of blackface mock black people.
What do U think? Should Joy get the same punishment as other blackface offenders have? Watch the clip (below) and sound off in the comments.
