Judge Joe Brown may be gearing up to see the courtroom from a very different perspective.
Last week, Abbott Elementary actress Sheryl Lee Ralph came forward on the Way Up with Angela Yee podcast, alleging that years ago, “a famous TV judge” sexually assaulted her “in a very public place.” In case you missed it, she recalled of the event:
“I was suited. I had my suit on and I was handling my business for the television show I was on at that time.”
She continued, speaking of her alleged assailant:
“He and I were on the same network. This man walked in, grabbed me by the back of my neck, turned me around, and rammed his nasty-ass tongue down my throat. And everybody at the network saw it”

While the 66-year-old never specifically named who the judge was that assaulted her, she did clarify that it was NOT Greg Mathis, who she called “a great man.” She also claimed the network attempted to silence her for the sake of both her and her assailant’s shows, which were relatively new at the time.
In the days since, rumors have of course swirled as to her the mystery man could be, and now, Judge Joe is chiming in.
Last Friday, four days after Sheryl’s interview aired, the 75-year-old took to Twitter to defend himself… Even though the Moesha actress didn’t name him as the assailant. He wrote in a tweet:
“There’re false rumors being spread that I mistreated a certain lady ≈ 25 yrs ago. I categorically deny both the accusations & acquaintance with the lady. Those rumors started with certain identified parties & spread.”
Sheryl never mentioned even a specific time frame for when the assault took place, so Joe adding in the “25 yrs ago” part was completely on him… He continued, threatening legal action:
“They ought ‘Cease & Desist’ or contemplate a Defamation Action”
We’re not saying anything about whether he’s guilty or not, but to come out swinging SO defensively, and to add in a specific detail when he was never named… Damn!
The TV personality added in a subsequent tweet, seemingly referring to Sheryl’s Pennsylvania state senator husband, Vincent Hughes:
“Perhaps her Congressman husband has an interest in the matter ??? (As things pertain to defeating his party’s crippling grip on the area …)”

Monday, Joe took to the social media app again, hypothesizing why he would be “attacked” in such a way:
“I can see why I’m attacked:
I smile easily & sleep soundly
Stand up for the people
Protect Womanhood/Childhood
Promote Manhood
Tell truth
Say it to power
Promote honesty/duty/honor/obligation/accountability/bravery/courage
Deliver Justice/Equity/Fairness/Objectivity
Etc”

The judge is currently running in the 2023 Memphis mayoral election. Sheryl has yet to respond to his threat of legal action.
