Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich‘s marriage may be on the rocks, but don’t count them out just yet!
Earlier this month, we began to pick up on hints the couple had hit a rough patch in their relationship and those suspicions only continued to grow after people close to them came forward and confirmed they’d been having problems.
According to a new People report, the professional hockey player is still hoping for a reconciliation with his free-spirited wife!

A source close to the 36-year-old athlete says he really wants things to work out with Julianne in the end:
“If it was up to Brooks, he would stay married. And he is obviously still hoping things will work out with Jules.”
As our readers will recall, the two tied the knot back in 2017. Late last year, they also opened up about trying to get pregnant via in-vitro fertilization and at that time, we had no reason to believe there was any trouble going down behind closed doors — but things have clearly taken a turn since then.
The insider continued to explain the couple’s current state of affairs, noting that while Hough “already has her own life that she seems happy with,” Laich “keeps holding on” to their connection. Is that why he’s still wearing his wedding band while the Dancing with the Stars alum has been consistently spotted without hers? Hmm…
All things considered, Brooks’ inner circle has reportedly encouraged him to get his mind right while things play out:
“Friends are encouraging him to take care of himself.”
While that does sound nice, it also sounds like he’s preparing for the worst possible outcome here.
Hough’s husband has been pretty vocal on social media lately about prioritizing happiness in this new chapter of life and hasn’t outright said a peep about preserving his crumbling marriage, either. So, there’s that.
Speaking to the fact that neither party has publicly addressed the marital tension, a second People source recently said:
“Maybe it’s just a phase, maybe not. But either way they are not going to address it publicly right now.”
The insider added the professional dancer — who revealed last summer that she’s not straight — “is very independent and a free spirit, and that’s been tough for their marriage.”
But another said the two “are not giving up,” but instead electing to handle things privately.
